The Chinese-flagged fishers were detected in tuna mining operations north of Rapa Nui during an aerial inspection by the Navy.
The boats were monitored by a deployment of the P-3 "Orion" aircraft more than 1,400 kilometers from the coast, operating outside the Exclusive Economic Zone but within the Chilean surveillance area, mainly oriented towards the capture of jibia.
From a low-rise overflight, the crew used sensors and radio to locate and document 21 ships, with background for future sanctions.
