Back to the Moon: Inside NASA's Artemis II Mission
The mission will test life-support and navigation systems with four astronauts, including one from the Canadian Space Agency, on a 10-day lunar fly-by, NASA said.
- On January 31, NASA began a wet dress rehearsal at Kennedy Space Center as it readies Artemis II's roughly 10-day lunar flyby, with countdown starting at 8.13pm Saturday.
- NASA says teams will evaluate the rocket, spacecraft, ground systems and crew to formalise a launch date within February–April windows.
- The spacecraft will pass between 3,000 and 6,000 miles from the Moon and be out of contact for about 40 minutes during the deep-space test.
- Managers pushed early February dates back as teams monitor Arctic weather, confirming February 6 and February 7 are no longer viable and liftoff is no sooner than February 8 after safety and system checks.
- If successful, Artemis II will help shape future lunar landings and long‑duration human exploration by providing medical and radiation experiments data across February–April launch opportunities.
