McTominay Sidelined with Heart Arrhythmia
Napoli said Scott McTominay has a mild, benign arrhythmia and will miss about a month after corrective ablation surgery.
Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo heart surgery after being diagnosed with a "mild, benign arrhythmia," the Italian Serie A club announced on Tuesday; the 29-year-old will be sidelined for a month.
McTominay was substituted after 56 minutes during Sunday's 2-1 loss to Como and will undergo corrective pulsed field ablation in the coming days to address the irregular heartbeat.
Pulsed field ablation is a minimally invasive technique using electrical pulses to block faulty signals and restore normal heartbeat rhythm; Napoli expects McTominay to return after the international break.
Between September 26 and October 6, McTominay will miss Scotland's four Nations League group matches, including fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia.
New Scotland head coach Sebastian Pocognoli will name his maiden Nations League squad later this month without the experienced midfielder available for his first four fixtures in charge.
