B.C. teacher, caught in Creep Catchers-style sting, banned from teaching for 7 years

The discipline ruling follows messages and a planned meeting with a decoy posing as a 14-year-old, according to the B.C. teacher regulator.

  • The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation barred Carlo Deni Pavan from teaching for seven years, following a consent resolution agreement released Tuesday, Sept. 29.
  • Pavan, a Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools teacher, contacted someone on Grindr on March 14, 2023, who was a man imitating a 14-year-old.
  • On March 18, 2023, the person approached Pavan while he sat in his car; once confronted, Pavan drove away while the person filmed him, according to the agreement.
  • Footage of the encounter was posted to Facebook, identifying Pavan, and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools fired him on June 13, 2023, following an investigation initiated March 20, 2023.
  • Pavan's teaching credentials were suspended for three years on April 11, 2023, while Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools cited privacy legislation in declining further comment.
