NAF Receives Five New Helicopters to Boost Air Operations
The five helicopters will expand intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, with seven more of 10 recently acquired aircraft still due this year.
- On Tuesday, the Nigerian Air Force received five new helicopters in Lagos, comprising three AW-109 Trekker B units from Leonardo Helicopters and two H-125 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters.
- These platforms are part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government to strengthen the Armed Forces' capacity to tackle evolving security threats including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
- Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the AW-109s enhance intelligence and surveillance capabilities, while H-125s provide light support, increasing overall aircraft availability for joint operations.
- Aneke described the acquisition as "another significant milestone in the federal government's sustained investment." The platforms are undergoing post-delivery assembly and crew-readiness processes ahead of operationalization.
- The remaining seven helicopters are expected by the end of 2026. Aneke expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu's support for the NAF's transformation and modernisation.
