Murphy and Turner Are Emerging as Young Cornerstones on the Bengals' Defense
Murphy had 32 pressures and four sacks after Week 9 last season, while Turner is now covering Ja'Marr Chase in practice.
The Cincinnati Bengals are relying on defensive end Myles Murphy and cornerback DJ Turner as defensive cornerstones this season, hoping to elevate the team after missing the postseason last year.
Following Trey Hendrickson's season-ending injury last year, Murphy seized opportunities on the edge, recording 32 pressures and four sacks from Week 9 onwards, while Turner showed upside covering receivers during the second half of the season.
Turner, 25, is now following receiver Ja'Marr Chase during practice 1-on-1 on just about every play. The cornerback said, "I'm going to make sure I make him way better."
Quarterback Joe Burrow called Turner "one of the best players at his position," while head coach Zac Taylor said Murphy is "an easy guy to pull for" heading into the season.
Murphy, 24, believes he is just starting to "hit my stride" after gaining experience last year. The defensive duo hopes their individual growth translates to team success as the Bengals aim to break their postseason drought.
