Hyundai To Invest $500 Million in Alabama Plant, Wants To Become More American Than American Brands
The move will support new engines and an extended-range electric powertrain as Hyundai expands North American production and avoids a 15% tariff on Korean-built vehicles.
Hyundai is planning to invest roughly half a billion dollars in its production center in Alabama to build new engines and components for its hybrid models. CEO Jose Munoz revealed the strategy at the 2026 Automotive News Congress, saying that Hyundai will become more American than many American OEM brands.
