Bodycam Shows Texas Deputies Rescuing Man From Burning Vehicle
The sheriff’s office said deputies used a drone and body camera footage shows a rescue attempt that ended with the man airlifted for burns.
Wise County Sheriff deputies rescued a man from a burning vehicle in Bridgeport, Texas, earlier this month, using a drone to locate the car engulfed in flames in the woods.
Deputies ran down a steep embankment to reach the passenger, but the man initially resisted their efforts as the fire burned in triple-digit heat and a small explosion occurred.
"You're going to die if you don't get out," a deputy warned while struggling to pull the passenger from the wreckage; eventually responders confirmed, "He's safe, he's safe."
The passenger was airlifted to a hospital with burns and other injuries, while two deputies sought medical attention for possible smoke inhalation following the dangerous extraction.
Posting to Facebook, the Wise County Sheriff's Office credited multiple agencies for their collaboration, noting the incident demonstrated the "strength, determination, perseverance, and commitment of the first responders.
