Funding Cuts Are Forcing Dozens of Health Clinics in Sudan to Close, Aid Groups Warn
MSF said admissions rose 22.5% in central Darfur as 45 health centres lost funding and frontline services closed.
- On Tuesday, reports from North Kordofan say at least 11 people were killed in a drone attack on the army-controlled town of Umm Ruwaba, striking a crowded courtyard in a court complex.
- The war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces erupted in April 2023, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises with more than 33 million people needing medical assistance.
- Between January and April 2026, MSF saw admissions jump 22.5% in Darfur facilities. In Gedaref state's Tanedba camp, 18,400 displaced people lost maternity and surgical services after a humanitarian organisation departed in June.
- "After a longer and more expensive journey, patients often arrive in a much more serious condition, and the hospital may already be full," explained Sebastián Traficante, MSF's emergency co-ordinator in Darfur.
- MSF urged world leaders gathering at the General Assembly in New York to take action, noting Sudan saw 1,620 deaths in attacks on medical facilities in 2025—82% of all global healthcare attack deaths.
