MotoGP San Marino GP: Marquez takes championship lead with Misano win
Marquez overcame a 102-point deficit and held off late pressure from Alex Marquez to claim his fifth win of the 2026 season.
On Sunday, Marc Marquez won the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, seizing the 2026 MotoGP championship lead after polesitter Marco Bezzecchi crashed on the opening lap.
Pole-Sitter Bezzecchi's race ended at Turn 12 on lap one when he lost control while pushing to extend his early lead, abruptly ending his title challenge.
Fending off intense late pressure from brother Alex Marquez, Marc secured his fifth win of the season while Alex finished second in a tribute livery for Marco Simoncelli.
Following his victory, Marc Marquez is now level with Jorge Martin on 274 points but leads the 2026 riders' standings due to more race wins this season.
Pedro Acosta claimed third on the KTM as Martin dropped to fifth after leading, setting up a high-stakes battle where remaining races will determine the championship.
In three and a half months he has cut the 102 points that separated him from the lead after his seventh operation on the right arm. More information: Master class of Marc Márquez in Misano: Bezzecchi again at the start.
