Clitheroe Mum 'so Proud' of Deafblind Son's Eastenders Debut
Harvey Hind, a four-year-old deafblind boy, stars as Arlo on EastEnders, highlighting deafblind awareness and communication through British Sign Language and cochlear implants.
On Wednesday, Harvey Hind, a four-year-old deafblind boy from Clitheroe, Lancashire, made his acting debut on BBC One soap EastEnders, portraying preschooler Arlo.
Diagnosed as blind at three months old after failing a newborn hearing test at four weeks, Harvey relies on British Sign Language, cochlear implants, and a red-and-white striped cane.
Selected by the ZBD casting agency, Harvey handled the filming process with ease, taking four cameras in his stride, according to his mother, Kimberly Hind.
Kimberly hopes Harvey's role will "break down barriers" for disabled children, crediting disability charity Sense for providing "lifesaving" support that transformed her family's life.
In the episode, Arlo and his mother visit Lauren Branning and Peter Beale, where Arlo plays with their son, Jimmy, in a storyline addressing challenges faced by disabled children.
