More trade groups oppose UP-NS deal, citing weakened industry competition

More than 60 trade associations and chambers of commerce submitted a letter to the Surface Transportation Board in November 2025 opposing Union Pacific Corp.'s proposed acquisition of Norfolk Southern Corp. Multiple groups said the merger would negatively impact competition in the industry, which is already limited as four railroad companies control more than 90% of rail freight traffic.
