Roman Anthony Returns to Field for Rehab Stint with Sea Dogs
Roman Anthony returned after 106 days out and is expected to stay with Portland at least through the week, the Sea Dogs said.
On Tuesday, Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony began a minor league rehab assignment with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, ending a 106-day absence from the field.
Following a May 4 check-swing against the Detroit Tigers, Anthony suffered a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger, forcing the extended layoff.
In his debut at Hadlock Field, Anthony went 2-for-2 with two walks and a two-run homer measured at 108 mph off the bat, clearing the right-field stands.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy noted Anthony will have a "hybrid" day on Wednesday with Portland to determine if he can manage back-to-back games.
The 22-year-old seeks to bolster the Red Sox lineup during their playoff push; the team reached 67-58 while Anthony was away, positioning him as a potential catalyst.
