More evacution alerts, orders rescinded in Bald Range wildfire area
BC Wildfire Service said the blaze is not expected to spread beyond its current perimeter as 378 firefighters continue suppression work.
- The BC Wildfire Service reports the Bald Range wildfire near Summerland is now 'Being Held,' allowing the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen and the Penticton Indian Band to rescind multiple evacuation orders and alerts.
- Covering 25,185 hectares, the blaze is no longer expected to expand beyond current boundaries due to suppression efforts and cooler weather. BCWS downgraded the incident Thursday, ending 24-hour operations as fire activity significantly decreased.
- On Friday, 378 firefighters, 57 pieces of heavy equipment, and 10 helicopters remained on-site. Crews from Alberta, Quebec, and Mexico continue suppression tasks, including mop-up operations near the Brent Mountain Protected Area.
- While many residents may return home, six evacuation orders and three alerts remain in effect. The Recovery Information Centre at the George Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre in Summerland closed Friday at 4 p.m.
- Residents should remain prepared to evacuate, as conditions can shift at any moment. With Saturday's high reaching only 18 degrees Celsius and similar weather forecast for Sunday, crews continue extinguishing remaining heat sources.
