‘Sturgeon Slayers’ Celebrate Record-Setting Catch
The catch measured 11-foot-8.2 inches and weighed an estimated 1,100 to 1,200 pounds, then was tagged and released.
On June 4, Chilliwack-based Sturgeon Slayers landed a record-breaking white sturgeon on the Fraser River measuring 11-foot-8.2-inches in length with a 60-inch girth, weighing an estimated 1,100 to 1,200 pounds.
Kevin Estrada, founder of Sturgeon Slayers, noted this catch surpassed their previous 2021 record of 11-foot-6.5-inches, with the team emphasizing conservation by treating every fish as a tagged, released living record rather than a trophy.
Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association co-chairman Kevin Estrada highlighted that both record-setting fish had never been caught before, proving conservation works and these giants are thriving in the river.
In recognition of his contributions to sturgeon conservation and community service, Estrada received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025, underscoring responsibility to protect these ancient freshwater species.
The long-term survival of these sturgeons depends on continued habitat protection, scientific research, and public education to ensure these massive fish remain part of the Fraser River for future generations.
