Monday is the last day to register to vote in the 2026 primary elections

Texas requires voter registration 30 days before primaries while North Carolina offers same-day registration during early voting from Feb. 12–28, officials said.

  • On February 2, 2026, some jurisdictions required voter registration, with Texas managing it through county Voter Registrars and VoteTexas.gov, as applications must be received or postmarked by that date.
  • County guidance specifies that mailed or in-person applications must arrive by 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 at P.O. Box 7468 or 35 Woodfin Street, Asheville, N.C., according to Buncombe County Election Services.
  • Paper forms are available at public libraries and government offices, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Health and Human Services, and can be requested with a postage-paid application on the Secretary of State's website.
  • If your application isn't postmarked or received by the deadline, county offices warn it will be invalid, but once processed, registrants receive a voter registration card while registrations remain active unless moved or ineligible.
  • Voters can request absentee ballots through Feb. 17, and eleven early voting sites in Buncombe County open Feb. 12–Feb. 28 with same-day registration requiring ID and proof of residence.
