Modi, Putin hold talks in New Delhi on trade, defence
The leaders are aiming to lift annual bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030 while widening cooperation in defense, energy and critical minerals, officials said.

- Targeting $100 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030, Modi and Putin reviewed industrial partnerships including defence co-production. Modi gifted Putin a Russian translation of the Thirukkural, the ancient Tamil classic, symbolizing shared cultural heritage.
- New Delhi deployed around 30,000 security personnel across the capital for the summit. India aims to position the bloc as a neutral, solutions-oriented forum despite competing interests among members on West Asia and Ukraine conflicts.
- Analysts warn the bloc's rapid expansion creates internal constraints, with Harsh V. Pant of the Observer Research Foundation stating, "What was seen until last year as an achievement – the expansion of BRICS – today looks like a big constraint.
