Mobile Phone of Belgian Missing in Tasmania for 2,5 Years Found

A private search led to finding Celine Cremer's phone 2.5 years after her disappearance, with police now conducting forensic analysis and cadaver dog searches.

  • On Saturday, searchers located a device identified as belonging to missing Belgian hiker Celine Cremer, marking a major breakthrough more than two years after she vanished near Philosopher Falls area, Tasmania.
  • Cremer was last seen on June 17, 2023, when she disappeared near Philosopher Falls; police searched for two weeks before suspending the search on July 10, 2023 after experts said she could not have survived in bad weather.
  • Led by private investigator Ken Gamble, the search party including four of Cremer's friends from Belgium recovered a Samsung mobile phone with a lilac case 60m from her last recorded location.
  • Detectives are now examining the device forensically, and authorities attended the scene, used a cadaver dog to search an area, while police support the renewed search.
  • With weather causing a Sunday postponement, around 35 people said the find gave hope, and Rob Parsons said, `It put so much wind in everyone's sails`, as search is expected to resume Tuesday.
