'Miracle he's alive': Crows receive update on Modra
The former AFL star is recovering after surgery on his jaw, cheekbone and eye socket, and doctors say he has no brain injury.
On Saturday, Adelaide Crows legend Tony Modra woke from a coma following a life-threatening truck accident last Thursday near Victor Harbour, where a falling tree branch smashed his windshield.
Modra was driving near his sheep and cattle farm 90km south of Adelaide when the accident occurred, prompting his airlift to Flinders Medical Centre for facial surgery.
Former Crows teammate Mark Ricciuto confirmed on Monday that Modra avoided serious brain injury and has been released from intensive care, though he requires more surgery.
During the Adelaide Oval clash with Melbourne on Saturday, fans paid tribute to the former superstar with applause, leaving Modra's family 'overcome with emotion and gratitude.'
Modra's family said he has made 'encouraging progress' over four days of surgery but remains in a 'very challenging period' as they navigate recovery with overwhelming AFL community support.
