Owatonna College Student Crowned 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way
Hanson will serve as goodwill ambassador for nearly 1,500 Minnesota dairy farm families and will be carved in butter by artist Gerry Kulzer.
- On Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, college student Jena Hanson of Owatonna was crowned the 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
- As the official goodwill ambassador for nearly 1,500 Minnesota dairy farm families, Hanson will spend the next year making public appearances and visiting classrooms to promote dairy's nutritional benefits.
- Hanson's first official duty begins Thursday and Friday in the Dairy Building, where she will sit in a rotating cooler to have her likeness sculpted into a 90-pound block of butter.
- Ten dairy princesses from across Minnesota competed for the title, with Stearns County representatives Isabella Schiffler and Jaiden Smith selected as runners-up; Smith was also named Miss Congeniality.
- Sponsored by Midwest Dairy, the program continues a tradition of connecting consumers with farmers; the previous titleholder traveled 11,994 miles and attended 83 events during her reign.
