Lithuania and the European Union (EU) should consider recognizing the Russian intelligence services as a terrorist organization, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Ķēstutis Budris announced on Friday.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys has proposed officially designating Russian intelligence as a terrorist organization. He believes such a move is not only a political signal but also a concrete legal instrument that would allow for the introduction of tougher sanctions against the Kremlin and would be a viable legal tool in the fight against Russian aggression.

"It seems to me that this is not only a political message, but also very specific legal instruments at the EU level that need to be discussed. An organization that has been named as responsible for organizing attacks of this type – with explosives – not for the first time, at a civilian airport, what else is this, if not terrorism, a desire to cause terror and tension in society?" K. Budrys told reporters on Friday.
