Minimum wage hikes set to begin across five provinces
The increases range from 25 to 40 cents an hour as provinces respond to rising living costs and inflation pressures, officials said.
Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan are raising minimum wages this year, with increases ranging between 25 and 40 cents across the five provinces.
Governments tied these increases to the rising cost of living, reflecting broader economic pressures facing workers across Canada.
Ontario moves to $17.95 an hour, Prince Edward Island to $17.30, and Nova Scotia to $17; Manitoba climbs to $16.40 and Saskatchewan to $15.70.
Nunavut leads the country at just over $20 an hour after lifting its minimum wage in early September, establishing the highest rate in Canada.
Alberta maintains the country's lowest minimum wage at $15 an hour and remains the only jurisdiction that has not increased its rate since 2019.
