On July 15, 1774, the eligible voters of Middlesex County met inside the Colonial courthouse in Urbanna and elected James Montague and Edmund Berkeley to represent Middlesex in the Virignia assembly and presented the Middlesex Resolutions stating that the citizens of Middlesex were opposed to Great Britian’s policy of taxation without representation.
