Middlesbrough FC transfer latest: Manchester United keeper joins big-spending Boro
Middlesbrough paid about £7 million and could owe another £7 million in add-ons as Manchester United kept a buy-back clause.
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek completed his move to Middlesbrough on Sunday for an initial £7m fee. The 22-year-old, who impressed on loan at Bristol City last season, joined the Riverside club.
A Czech youth international, Vitek progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford after joining from Sigma Olomouc in 2020. He previously had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Austrian side Blau-Weiss Linz.
Reports indicate the deal includes a buy-back clause and a 35 per cent sell-on fee. "The project here is very impressive," Vitek said, adding, "I'm delighted to now be part of that."
With Seny Dieng expected to leave before the transfer window closes, Vitek will compete with Sol Brynn for the number one jersey on Teesside. He becomes Boro's seventh summer signing.
Middlesbrough progressed into the second round of the Carabao Cup on Friday, defeating Wrexham 1-0. Boro head coach Kim Hellberg is also expected to pursue Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Ashley Phillips for a significant fee.
Czech goalkeeper Radek Vítek has joined second-tier Middlesbrough from Manchester United after six years. According to British media, Middlesbrough will pay seven million pounds for the 22-year-old goalkeeper, with bonuses that could double that amount (395 million crowns). The deal will include a buy-back option for Manchester and a 35 percent share of any future transfer.
