Michael Jordan Makes $10 Million Commitment to UNC School of Social Work in Honor of His Mother
The gift will rename a UNC center for Deloris Jordan and fund 10 scholarships for Master of Social Work students, officials said.
On Monday, Michael Jordan announced a $10 million gift to the UNC School of Social Work, the largest single donation in the university's history, honoring his mother, Deloris P. Jordan.
Jordan's donation stems from a long-standing family connection, where Deloris P. Jordan has actively served the university for more than 40 years as a social work advocate.
The gift funds the newly renamed Deloris P. Jordan Global Social Development Innovations Center and establishes the Jordan Family Scholars program, providing $12,500 scholarships to 10 Master of Social Work students.
UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Lee Roberts expressed gratitude, stating, "We could not be more grateful to Michael Jordan for this generous investment in Carolina and the people and communities we serve."
Deloris Jordan noted the gift's potential to empower future social workers, saying, "I am honored that this investment will support the next generation of social workers and the important work they do.
