Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich planning to retire, AP source says
A successor search is underway as Radakovich is credited with major facility upgrades and team milestones, including a record 510,000 football tickets sold.
Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich is planning to retire with a formal announcement expected in the coming days, according to reports from Friday. Yahoo Sports reporter Ross Dellenger first reported the news, later confirmed by ESPN's Andrea Adelson.
Radakovich has led the Hurricanes athletic department since December 2021 after returning to his alma mater. The 1982 Miami Business School graduate is the longest-serving athletic director in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with prior roles at Georgia Tech and Clemson.
During his tenure, the football team set a record with more than 510,000 tickets sold to regular-season home games and reached the College Football Playoff national championship game in January. Men's basketball reached the Final Four in 2023 while women's basketball made the Elite Eight that same year.
Radakovich's tenure also produced five individual national champions in diving, tennis, track and field while he hired eight coaches and extended seven others' contracts. The university expanded its indoor football practice facility and opened new training homes for baseball, basketball and rowing programs.
At 67, Radakovich's retirement ends the longest tenure as athletic director in the Atlantic Coast Conference. A search for his successor is underway, with the university considering multiple candidates, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.
