- On Monday, Mexico's economy rebounded 1.4% in the second quarter, marking its strongest expansion since early 2022, national statistics agency INEGI said. The rebound followed a revised 0.3% contraction in the first quarter.
- Primary activities, including farming, fishing, and mining, led growth with a 2.4% expansion across all three main sectors tracked by INEGI. This sectoral strength drove the broader economic recovery.
- In annual terms, Latin America's second-largest economy expanded 2.1% during the second quarter. The 12-month inflation rate reached 3.26% in early August, while the core price index rose 3.93% over the same period.
- Banxico held its interest rate at 6.5% earlier this month, with policymakers inclined to maintain the benchmark rate unchanged. The rate remains within the Bank of Mexico's 3% target range despite persistent inflation.
- Actual growth came in slightly below INEGI's preliminary estimate of 1.5% published last month. The revised data confirms the economic rebound while showing performance lagged initial projections.
