Meta Is Launching 'VR Glasses' Next Year for $1,300
The glasses use hand gestures and eye control, and Meta says they will support 75 games, IMAX movies and major streaming apps.
- At Meta Connect on Wednesday, Meta unveiled Meta VR Glasses priced at $1,299, launching in Spring 2027. The lightweight glasses offload processing to a tethered compute puck, aiming to replace bulkier VR headsets.
- Meta designed the 100-gram glasses to be five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3, addressing headset fatigue. Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, the device shifts weight and battery to an external puck.
- The glasses feature a 5K infinite display with 37 pixels per degree and Dolby Vision enhancements. Meta eliminated hand-held controllers, relying on hand gestures and eye tracking to navigate the interface.
- Partnerships with Disney and Marvel enable 3D movie streaming in November through IMAX Enhanced certification. Users gain access to Xbox Cloud Gaming and the entire Meta Quest game library at launch.
- Meta will offer RX inserts for $100 to support users requiring vision correction. Future updates include multi-monitor workspace support and full-body hologram calls, expanding the device's utility beyond entertainment.
