Melinda Gates tells interviewer ‘Epstein could have been stopped’ days after her ex testified to Congressional panel
French Gates tied Epstein’s downfall to failures by powerful men and said she is committing $215 million to women’s health.
In an interview published Saturday, philanthropist Melinda French Gates claimed Jeffrey Epstein "could have been stopped" had the U.S. justice system done its job preventing his crimes.
Her comments follow testimony by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates before the House Oversight Committee this week, where he claimed Epstein attempted to blackmail him with details of extramarital affairs.
French Gates described Epstein as "evil" after one meeting and cited her 2021 divorce from Gates after 27 years of marriage as partly due to his unfaithfulness and contact with the sex offender.
Advocating for women in leadership, French Gates committed $215 million this month to women's healthcare initiatives, positioning her as a major funder in the gender equity space.
French Gates emphasized that transparency is essential for justice for Epstein's victims, while lamenting the degradation of women's rights in the U.S. political climate.
