Melenhorst paces Rapid to 5-2 NSL win over Wild
Melenhorst scored twice as Ottawa erased a 2-1 deficit and moved to 1-1 with three other goals in the first half, officials said.
On Saturday, the Ottawa Rapid defeated the visiting Calgary Wild 5-2 in Northern Super League action, with Keera Melenhorst scoring twice in the first half to spark the rally.
The Wild led 2-1 early but trailed 4-2 by halftime, a collapse that dropped Calgary to 0-and-2 after a season-opening 2-0 loss to the Montreal Rose.
Controlling 59 per cent of possession at TD Place Stadium, Ottawa outshot the visitors 13-12, while Melanie Forbes, Florence Belzile, and Choo Hyo-Joo also scored for the Rapid.
At Stade Boreale, the Montreal Roses defeated the Vancouver Rise 4-0, with Tanya Boychuk scoring twice and Anna Karpenko recording the clean sheet for the undefeated Roses.
Ottawa will host the Vancouver Rise on Wednesday, while the Wild are set to host the Montreal Roses on Saturday, May 16, in their next Northern Super League matches.
