Brianna Do, Melanie Green Tied for First-Round Lead at Riviera
Green’s ace on the par-3 15th helped her post a 6-under 66 and share the lead with Brianna Do after the opening round.
On Thursday, American Melanie Green and veteran Brianna shared the first-round lead at the LPGA Riviera Maya Open in PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico, both carding 6-under 66.
Rookie Green carded a surprise hole-in-one on the par-3 15th with a 7-iron, though she did not realize the shot went in until walking to the green.
Spain's Carlota Ciganda sits one stroke back at 67, while world number one Nelly Korda opened with a 68 on the windy El Camaleon Golf Course, just four days after winning The Chevron Championship.
Brianna, who posted seven birdies and a bogey, credited recent experience in windy conditions for her strong start, saying the weather helped her focus on playing golf rather than her swing.
Korda, the only top-10 world-ranked player competing at Mayakoba, remains a contender despite the challenging afternoon winds that made the fairways at El Camaleon feel tighter during the opening round.
