Matt Suhey, Former 1985 Chicago Bears Fullback, Dies at 68, Reports Say
Suhey spent his entire 10-year Bears career as Walter Payton’s lead blocker and scored the opening touchdown in Super Bowl XX, teammates said.

- Suhey spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Bears from 1980 through 1989, appearing in 148 games with 2,946 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
- Known as the lead blocker for Hall of Famer Walter Payton for eight seasons, Suhey scored the first touchdown in the Bears' 46-10 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
- "It made their chemistry on the field a lot easier," Payton's wife, Connie, said regarding their bond, which extended beyond football into personal struggles.
- A standout at Penn State University, Suhey continued a family tradition established by his father, Steve Suhey, and grandfather, Bob Higgins, who also played college football.
