Karen Solomon, wife wanted in connection with Worcester police officer's death, found dead

Authorities say a body believed to be Karen Solomon was found near a gun after a multiday search linked to her husband’s death.

  • On Monday, officials found Karen Solomon dead near Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, ending an intensive law enforcement search. Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier reported that hospital workers discovered human remains, which investigators believe to be Solomon.
  • The search began after Kurt Solomon, who served 31 years with Worcester Police, was found dead at the couple's home on Tuesday. Officials had named Karen a suspect and sought to question her about what occurred.
  • Law enforcement agencies deployed drones, boats, and tracking dogs to search the area near the couple's home and a reservoir 1.6 kilometers away. Police recovered a handgun at the scene that was not a service weapon.
  • During Monday's press conference, Saucier described the case as a "tragic murder-suicide." While final identification remains pending, officials stated they are confident the remains recovered at the hospital are Karen.
  • Before her death, Karen co-founded First H.E.L.P., an organization dedicated to honoring first responders who died by suicide. The group works to reduce stigma surrounding mental-health challenges within law enforcement and support affected families.
