Engineers at Harvard University in the US would use olivine and a specially engineered bacterium to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
The genetically modified marine bacterium Alteromonas macleodii accelerated the natural weathering of the mineral olivine by 2.6 times. This helped purify ocean water from dissolved carbon dioxide.
