Marquez Used Body Double in Motegi Kart Race: "We Are Not Here to Mess Around or Drive Go Karts"
Championship leader Jorge Martín spotted the switch as Marquez cited right-arm treatment and said officials reprimanded the stunt.
- On Sunday, Marc Marquez skipped the Japanese MotoGP kart race and sent a body double in his place, prompting championship officials to issue a reprimand to the Ducati rider.
- Following the extended 20-minute warm-up session, Marquez required physiotherapy on his right arm and ice treatment, prompting him to prioritize recovery over the newly added karting event.
- The body double wore Marquez's helmet and gloves, raising suspicions among fellow riders. Championship leader Jorge Martin spotted the switch, saying, "I spotted it quickly, I knew it wasn't Marc."
- After winning the Japanese MotoGP from second on the grid, Marquez defended the decision as "selfish" but necessary, confirming he received a reprimand for the substitution.
- The concept mirrors Formula One's pre-race karting sessions. While riders like Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu participated in Japan's festivities, Marquez prioritized his physical condition for the main race.
