Poll Finds Many Americans Avoid Trump News Despite Following It
About 6 in 10 U.S. adults say they try to avoid Trump news, yet many still follow it because it feels impossible to escape.
- A new Media Insight Project survey finds that about 6 in 10 Americans say they actively try to avoid news stories about President Donald Trump, "often" or "sometimes."
- Partisan divides emerge: about two-thirds of Democrats and independents try to avoid Trump news compared to about half of Republicans. Sterrett suggests some Republicans avoid news because they distrust traditional media sources, not Trump updates.
- Both parties consume news on social media "daily" yet blame users for misinformation spread. Meanwhile, 58% of Democrats see artificial intelligence companies as having "quite a bit" of responsibility, compared to 47% of Republicans.
- Roughly 7 in 10 independents regularly follow various news topics, trailing about 8 in 10 Democrats and Republicans. Independents remain less engaged overall with news consumption than those aligned with major parties.
