Myanmar-Based Kuki Ultras Attack Naga Villages in Manipur
At least 100 armed men allegedly raided three border villages, injuring two civilians and burning 18 houses, the Tangkhul Naga Long said.
On Thursday, suspected Myanmar-based Kuki militants attacked three Naga villages—Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee—in Manipur's Kamjong district, with around 100 armed men using drones and 40 mm guns to burn 18 houses at 3.30 a.m.
Local MLA Leishiyo Keishing alleged that the Kuki National Army-Burma and the People's Defence Force, operating from across the Myanmar border, coordinated the cross-border raid on the villages.
The incident occurred barely 200 metres from an 11 Assam Rifles company station between Choro and Aloyo. The Tangkhul Naga Long alleged the paramilitary force failed to prevent the external aggression.
Keishing reported that assailants abducted two people before retreating to Myanmar, while two civilians sustained bullet injuries and many villagers fled to nearby jungles, with several remaining missing.
This attack compounds regional instability since May 3, 2023, when conflict between Kukis and Meiteis killed at least 260 people and displaced more than 59,000. Community leaders now demand the Centre address strategic security failures along the India-Myanmar border.
