Man wanted for allegedly firing shots at two Toronto and Vaughan synagogues arrested
Police arrested an 18-year-old man of no fixed address on Wednesday, charging him in connection with two synagogue shootings in Toronto and Vaughan that occurred in early March.
Gunfire damaged the Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue in Vaughan on March 6, followed just after midnight on March 7 by a second shooting at the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in Toronto.
Because the suspect was 17 at the time of the offenses, police are not naming him; he faces multiple charges including discharging a firearm and mischief to property over $5,000.
No injuries were reported during either incident, and the accused is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket on May 20 to face the charges.
The shootings drew widespread condemnation, prompting authorities to increase patrols around Jewish places of worship and neighborhoods throughout the GTA in response.
