Carrick Knows Tougher Tests Coming After Sabah Cakewalk
Michael Carrick said United’s first clean sheet of the season showed progress after four first-half goals secured a comfortable Champions League win.
Manchester United defeated Sabah 4-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday, launching their Champions League campaign with a dominant performance in European football's premier competition.
Old Trafford hosted its first Champions League match since December 2023, as the Red Devils faced a club founded only nine years ago in Azerbaijan.
Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, and Benjamin Sesko scored first-half goals for United, while Lisandro Martinez tapped home the final goal to secure the team's first clean sheet of the season.
Head coach Michael Carrick called it "good, exciting football" and emphasized that the clean sheet was "important for us" as the squad progresses through the season.
Focus shifts to Sunday's Premier League clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford, followed by Champions League trips to Atletico Madrid and Como in October.
