Man Charged With Stabbing, Murdering 2 Women In Nassau Friday: Police
Police say the suspect confessed after killing a neighbor and a co-worker in separate attacks that left both women dead.
- On Saturday, Rony Yahir Alvarenga-Rivera pleaded not guilty in First District Court in Hempstead to charges stemming from two fatal stabbings in Nassau County, remaining held without bail.
- Authorities allege Alvarenga-Rivera stabbed his 32-year-old roommate around 9 p.m. Thursday at her West Mineola Ave. home, then killed his 42-year-old co-worker at Wendy's on Austin Blvd. hours later.
- Police apprehended the suspect at a 7-Eleven on Atlantic Ave. after he asked a clerk to call 911; upon arrival, Alvarenga-Rivera admitted to officers he had killed someone.
- Defending the county's partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman cited the suspect's status as an "unaccompanied minor" who entered the U.S. in 2016.
- Commanding Officer George Darienzo described the suspect's mindset as fueled by "anger," noting both victims suffered "multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso." Police have not identified a specific motive.
