Man charged after youths assaulted days apart in Richmond Hill
Police say the suspect faces four charges after two youth victims escaped separate trail attacks and investigators warned that additional victims may exist.
On Tuesday, York Regional Police charged a 30-year-old man with sexual assault and related offenses following two separate attacks on youth victims in Richmond Hill.
The first incident occurred Wednesday, August 12, near Hwy. 7 and Bayview Avenue; the second took place on a nearby trail Friday, August 14, two days later.
Officers arrested Jan-Hoy Cassells, 30, near Bathurst Street and Hwy. 7 shortly after the second assault, charging him with sexual interference, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, and obstructing justice.
Both youth victims managed to break free and flee the encounters; while police have laid formal charges, these allegations have not yet been proven in court.
Investigators believe additional victims may exist and are asking anyone with information to contact the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit.
