Man arrested on suspicion of public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon near Andrew's home
Police said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon after the reported confrontation.
- British police arrested a man after he allegedly threatened Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near his home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Officers detained the suspect for questioning following the confrontation during a dog walk.
- Andrew relocated to Marsh Farm in Wolferton last month after leaving Royal Lodge, where he had lived rent-free for more than 20 years. The former royal now employs private security after the late Queen Elizabeth II withdrew his publicly funded protection in 2019.
- Clad in a balaclava, the suspect approached Andrew from approximately 50 yards away while shouting before security intervened. The former Prince was reportedly "deeply shaken" by the encounter and drove away at speed as the man allegedly ran after him.
- Norfolk Police detained the man on suspicion of a public order offense and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at the King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre as authorities investigate the incident.
- The incident renews concerns about Andrew's security arrangements, which are privately funded since the late Queen Elizabeth II withdrew public protection in 2019. Andrew remains under investigation following his arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
