Man arrested in connection with physical altercation during Buda high school student walkout, police say
Chad Michael Watts was charged with two counts of assault after a physical altercation during a student walkout protesting ICE operations, police said.
- On Monday, 45-year-old Chad Michael Watts of Kyle was served an arrest warrant and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury, the Buda Police Department said.
- Students at Moe & Gene Johnson High School participated in a walkout on FM 967 to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions, and several hundred Hays CISD students left five campuses, police said.
- Footage shows the girl on the sidewalk and the man in a vehicle in a verbal argument that escalated into physical contact, with students swarming him and throwing water bottles, near FM 967 and FM 1626 around 3 p.m. Monday, police said.
- On Tuesday, police said they had identified Watts as the 'primary aggressor' and the Buda Police Department and Hays County District Attorney's Office are actively investigating, urging witnesses to contact Hays County dispatch at 512-393-7896 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-8477.
- SEAT's Ayaan Moledina urged a full investigation, saying `I think that there needs to be action taken on that and I would like to see a full investigation done on how it started and what can be done to prevent this happening in the future because like we discussed, these protests and walkouts are not going to stop anytime soon and we need to create policies and create environments where they can continue to happen safely`, emphasizing safety concerns at future walkouts.
