Man accused of biting infant son during erratic Memphis incident

Police said the infant was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition after witnesses tried to take him from Jerry Stark.

  • Around 1 a.m. Friday, Memphis Police responded to Memphis Wings restaurant at 2661 North Hollywood Street, where officers found 34-year-old Jerry Stark "screaming and panicking" inside and took him into custody after he allegedly bit his infant son on the cheek.
  • The infant's mother told police that Stark pushed her out of a moving vehicle and drove away with their son; witnesses spotted him at Shell and Marathon gas stations asking for help with the child before he arrived at the restaurant.
  • Stark ran into the restaurant and lay down on the kitchen floor, squeezing the infant until he turned blue before bystanders and patrons intervened. One witness shouted, "The baby's skin is on his lips and cheek!" as they pulled the baby away from him.
  • Paramedics transported the infant to a local hospital and treated him for a noncritical facial injury, while police booked Stark into Shelby County Jail on a charge of domestic assault causing bodily harm.
  • Stark is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning, and a witness's Facebook video of the police response reached over 1 million views, with the witness writing, "Seeing that baby face really broke my heart.
