Between 12 and 13 million children returned to school on Thursday, 1 October, in the three countries of the Central Sahel under jihadist pressure, but many others stayed at home in the areas most affected by insecurity in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, despite the efforts made by the authorities in those countries.
