Completion of ‘Modern’ Electric Train Service Line to Johor Bahru Key to Malaysia’s Development: PM Anwar
The new six-coach electric trains offer daily departures with initial two-train operations expanding to six by February, improving travel time and boosting local economies, KTMB said.
- Dec 12, 2025, KTMB launched the ETS linking Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and JB Sentral, completing the 192km Gemas–Johor Bahru electrified double-track and extending four KL Sentral–Kluang services to JB Sentral.
- First announced in 2011, the project faced over three years of delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and land-acquisition issues, with calls for state and federal government players to support rural ETS stations along the Gemas–JB line.
- KTMB's six-coach train seats 312 passengers with five standard and one business-class coach, featuring four toilets, plug points at every seat, a coach bistro and a Muslim prayer room.
- Tickets went on sale Dec 9 at 12:30am via KITS Style app, KTMB kiosks and website, with the 30 per cent launch discount and promo code 'JBBEST' fully redeemed on day one.
- The ETS is expected to boost local economies in Kluang and other satellite towns, with two additional trains in January and two in February plus a timetable change starting Jan 1, 2026.
