Report - Ilja Dragunov To Join AEW After Not Renewing WWE Deal
According to Fightful Select, Ilia Dragunov is expected to sign with AEW, with final administrative details currently being finalized following his WWE departure earlier this year.
Dragunov elected not to renew his contract in August, ending a seven-year tenure with WWE; he immediately became a free agent without a 90-day clause.
Fightful says Dragunov will be able to continue using "Ilja," and he previously held the NXT UK, NXT, and United States Championship titles during his WWE tenure.
Dragunov is among several recent WWE departures facing serious visa hurdles while residing outside the United States, following former New Day members Kofi and Austin Creed, now known as The New Level, in joining AEW.
MyAEW recently added a 2018 match between Dragunov and Gunther, formerly WALTER, highlighting its partnership with wXw, the German indie company where the two wrestlers originally competed.
