Video. 'Blood is Russia's art': Protests mark start of Venice Biennale
Video. The Russian punk rockers Pussy Riot and Ukraine feminist group FEMEN have joined forces to protest at Russia's participation at the Venice Biennale, the world's oldest international art exhibition.
The two performance groups Pussy Riot from Russia and Femen from Ukraine protested against Russia's participation in the Venice Biennale.
On a press day for the world's largest exhibition of contemporary art, on Wednesday, May 6, feminist groups, including Ukrainian Femen, protested in front of the Russian pavilion. Following controversy, Russia's presence has been a first since 2022.
Defending the inclusion of Russia, the president of the biennial says that the event is not a court, but a garden of peace where boycotts do not take place. But there are protests at the door of the pavilion.
