Europe's strategy for its struggling car industry protects established manufacturers at the expense of consumers and taxpayers rather than helping them compete, according to a new report.
A report by the Bruegel institute claims that the EU strategy for the car industry protects manufacturers at the expense of consumers. Measures such as tariffs and local components make electric cars more expensive and slow down the transition.
The electric cars "made in EU", according to the package of measures presented last year, can be 2,100 euros more expensive. It is an estimate of the Bruegel institute released this Tuesday (22 September).
