Macron calls for Strait of Hormuz to reopen, says he talked with Iranian president
Macron said a French-led naval mission and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle could help restore confidence among shipowners and insurers.
French President Emmanuel Macron urged all parties to immediately lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz without conditions to restore freedom of navigation following Iranian strikes on the United Arab Emirates.
Macron spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and invited Iran to seize the opportunity for peace, planning to discuss the issue with U.S. President Donald Trump.
France, along with Britain and over forty nations, plans a multinational naval escort mission to bolster confidence among shipowners and insurers, separate from the conflict parties.
The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is being pre-positioned toward the southern Red Sea to support this mission and reduce implementation time once conditions permit.
